A Bangladeshi wedding usually means three outfits – holud, biye and bou bhat – and each one needs bangles that match. One set or three?
Most brides we make for order two sets: a colourful set for the holud and a red or maroon set that works for both the wedding and the reception. A third set is ordered when the reception outfit is a different colour family, such as a dark green or navy lehenga. Ordering all sets together from one thread batch keeps the gold-tone stones consistent across the events.
Holud: colour and mixed stacks
The holud is where mixed colours belong. Yellow and orange are traditional, but the sets we make most for holud now are two- or three-colour stacks – mustard with teal, orange with pink, yellow with green – matched to the saree border rather than the body colour. Stones are kept small so the colour does the work. Plain wrapped bangles are fine here; a full kundan set is usually saved for the wedding.
Bridal bangles in Bangladesh for the wedding: red or maroon?
Both are traditional. The difference shows up in photographs. Red silk thread photographs bright and stands out against a red benarasi, sometimes too much; maroon sits deeper and reads as richer under indoor lighting, especially with gold stone work. If the wedding saree is bright red, many brides choose maroon bangles so the wrist does not merge with the sleeve. If the saree is maroon or wine, a true red set gives contrast. Gold: the stones, not the thread
In silk thread sets, gold comes from the kundan foil and the gold-tone wire, not from gold thread. A set can be almost all gold in appearance if the stones are set densely – a wide kada with a full flower motif flanked by wire-wrapped bangles. This is the look most often requested for the bou bhat, where the saree is frequently gold or cream.
How many bangles?
- Holud: 8–12 thin bangles per wrist, no kada.
- Wedding: one wide kada with 3–4 bangles on each side per wrist (7–9 pieces). Add a metal churi at the ends if you want the sound.
- Reception: same structure as the wedding set or a lighter 4–6 piece set.

Sizing for a bride
Hands swell slightly during a long day and mehendi adds a layer. Measure as in the bangle size guide and, if between sizes, go up. A set that slides on easily over mehendi is worth more than a tight perfect fit.
